I have this sense in my gut that I can’t shake. When I was a kid I remember reading a story about two Army privates running a radar post on one of Hawaii’s northern points, and that they were running it past the scheduled shutoff time because they wanted extra practice while they waited for breakfast to arrive. The radar screen lit up suddenly with a massive formation of incoming aircraft, and these two young guys immediately radioed their officer who told them not to worry about it because he assumed it was incoming American boys bringing B-17s from California. Those two American boys saw the attack coming but the officer got it wrong, and less than an hour later the Japs were raining down bombs on Pearl Harbor. I feel like you and me are sitting in that radar shack right now, and I don’t think it’s time to keep quiet about it. Here’s what I see.
The only thing that stopped it was a Republican Senate. If we lose two seats, that wall is gone. I keep hearing good people tell me the Senate will be fine, because it always has been. But I heard those same people tell me the same thing about Senate District 36 in last year’s special election too, and they were dead wrong. Believe me, I hope they’re right this time.
